Liquid Desiccant Air Conditioning Systems

The presentation  will begin with an introduction to liquid desiccant air conditioning including opportunities for saving energy and enhanced dehumidification using LDACs.  A history of liquid desiccant air conditioning systems and problems with past LDACs designs will be presented.  The various types of LDAC systems will be reviewed along with their strengths and weaknesses.  Design and application considerations when using LDACs will be discussed and conclusions presented.

 

Dinner Speaker - Peter Vandermeulen, M.S., M.B.A., member ASHRAE 

Peter Vandermeulen is Chief Technology Officer, 7AC Technologies, Inc.  He started 7AC Technologies, Inc. in 2009 to bring ultra-efficient, waste-heat driven air-conditioning technology to market.  7AC provides Liquid Desiccant Air Conditioning systems and membrane modules for Commercial and Industrial buildings and is a licensee from the US Department of Energy (NREL).  Prior to 7AC, Peter founded BlueShift (a robotics company) to introduce the use of continuous flow automation to the semiconductor industry and raised $20M in venture capital for the company.  Peter was VP and GM at Brooks Automations’ Vacuum Automation Business and worked for Varian Ion Implant Systems and ASM International as a Scientist.  Peter has a background in physics (M.S. Eindhoven University) and business administration (M.B.A. Babson College) and holds 22 US patents.  He lives with his wife and daughter in Newburyport, MA.

Desiccant Dehumidification

The desiccant dehumidification presentation is intended to provide a basic understanding of desiccant dehumidifiers and where they should best be used.

Topisc include:

  • What is a desiccant dehumidifier?
  • How the desiccant dehumidifier works.
  • Comparison of desiccant systems to other drying methods.
  • Applications for desiccant dehumidification systems.

 

Tech Session Speaker - Ken Wheeler

Mr. Wheeler is a Regional Sales Manager for desiccant dehumidification products at Stultz Air Technology Systems, Inc. located in Frederick, Maryland.  He began his career with desiccant dehumidification in 1996 and has served in sales, applications and design engineering positions.

Mr. Wheeler holds a B.S. in mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland.
